Octoberfest 2018
Octoberfest celebrates community and family in every way. Let’s do our best this Octoberfest 2018 to keep our thoughts on what Octoberfest truly stands for. So remember; and don't forget, about Octoberfest 2018: This October 1 through 31 is Octoberfest. Octoberfest focuses on community, and has a specific theme this year of "LIVE YOUR COLOR". We, The Shoes Saves Foundation staff, Management, and Sponsors, want to encourage our neighbors and community, to remember to look out for the safety of all those around us in the community this October; and all year long. This means, watching out for the kids who walk by in the morning going to the bus stop, or helping an elderly neighbor cross the street. Remember, to watch out for all unoccupied houses during the Halloween/Angels Night season as well. When we help each other; the community grows and flourishes. At the end of Octoberfest; we end the month with a celebration of nature’s goodness for the season changes, as fall has begun. Remember, our community focus of " LIVE YOUR COLOR ", and together we can make a difference.

Neighborhood Clean Up Day

Don't forget, August is the month for community service, and our neighborhood clean-up day is scheduled for this Sunday August 14, 2016.  As a result of some people having a heavy church schedule on Sunday 08/14/2016, several people have decided to start on Saturday 08/13/2016, which we also love. Just remember bulk trash pick-up is on Wednesday 08/17/2016, and all efforts to have your cleaning done before Wednesday 08/17/2016, would be greatly appreciated. Just picking up the trash on and around your own property makes a world of difference. If you live adjacent to a non-occupied home, consider picking up any unsightly trash as well. Let’s get out there and make our neighborhood beautiful again. We can all make a difference in District 3, and improve our community.

Pull your pants up campaign!

The Shoes Saves Foundation has been reaching out to the community to hear the communities concerns. We recently spoke in detail to a man name Philip Gowins, who had a lot to say about young men in the African American Community, specifically about how they dress. Mr. Gowins who works at a local area restaurant and bar, expressed a great deal of concern about the sagging pants trend in young men. In our interview, he had this to say, “Reaching the young black male culture, speaking from my own personal experience is important because setting the correct example is crucial. When men wear their pants hanging low, it looks so bad to other people.” Mr. Gowins went on to say, “Many people have heard the term the man wears the pants, however; by not wearing pants at the appropriate waist height, and showing underwear or the buttock, expresses to the world you’re not a man. The police see it and have no respect for the person improperly dressed. Families, in particularly wives see it and have no respect for the man in sagging pants.” Through our focus groups we found, some of the first sightings of sagging or hanging pants were seen in the penal system. As we continued to talk to Mr. Gowins, he also expressed concern about men learning dress code examples from any bad experience, prison or otherwise.

Mr. Gowins finally went on to say, “I would like to get the word out to early generations of young people, to help them to understand, that I am not criticizing them, but trying to teach them in love, for the purposes of improvement and motivation for the youth, with no intention to discourage or demean them. As I want especially young people to except they are our future, and I want them to be prepared for the future. This does include knowing how to dress for a job interview and once hired, understanding the proper work attire. Even as an entrepreneur, people must feel comfortable to hire you, and of course attire is part of that. Lastly I want black men in particularly to learn to self-exam themselves. To learn to look at the man in the mirror, and consider what they can do to improve self. To do some soul searching of their own, and improve their thinking, then display to the world a higher image of black men, other than sagging pants.  The sagging pants suggest to the world, those who wear them; don't know how to be men.”

Reverend Joi Karla Hubert's Commentary on COVID-19.

What's up fellow bloggers out there; and those who love to read blogs. Let's talk about the burning question of the hour, when is COVID 19 going to be completely eradicated? My God, enough is enough. We as American citizens, have had a new outlook on life; as we know it, in the land of the free. We have adapted to quarantining ourselves, in doors, for the most part. We have learned to stand six feet away from others; if we simply must go out, and we are washing our own hands, more than some of the hand soap manufacturers, can produce soap. All of this is leading up to us Americans, becoming a completely humble nation. When all is said and done; here's where we are statistically speaking in the current cases of COVID 19 in the USA, and globally, as of today's date Wednesday, May 13, 2020. In the USA, 1,400,741 confirmed cases, and globally 4,254,193 confirmed cases. As of May 12, 2020; 84,705 COVID 19 related deaths in the USA, and 297,739 COVID 19 related global deaths. Thus far, a total recovered COVID 19 global related cases stands at 1,655,993 people. However, the USA has one of the largest cases of COVID 19 outbreaks globally, year to date. Please feel free to share your comments about these alarming statistics. ~ Reverend Joi Karla Hubert
